What information we collect
Depending on how you contact us, we may collect your name, phone number, email address, property address, postcode, details about the work you need, and any photos or video you choose to send. We may also keep correspondence, quotations, job notes and records needed to provide or manage our services. For security and abuse prevention, our systems may also process limited technical request information such as browser details and pseudonymous network identifiers.
Why we use it
We use personal information to respond to enquiries, assess work, prepare quotations, arrange and provide services, keep appropriate business records, protect our systems from abuse, and meet legal or accounting obligations. The lawful basis will usually be taking steps at your request before entering into a contract, performing a contract, complying with a legal obligation, or our legitimate interests in operating and protecting the business.
MHK Job Check
Job Check lets you send job details, photos and a short video so MHK can review the issue before contacting you. Submissions are processed through our secure Firebase/Google Cloud systems. Media is stored privately and is not published on the website.
For internal review, MHK may receive an email notification containing your job reference and enquiry details. Secure viewer links are time-limited, but expiry of a viewer link does not itself delete the underlying job record or uploaded media.
Who we use to process data
We use trusted service providers to operate the website and Job Check, including Google Firebase/Google Cloud for hosting, database and private media storage, and Resend for Job Check email notifications. We may also use professional advisers or service providers where reasonably necessary to operate the business or meet legal obligations.
International processing
Some technology providers may process data outside the UK. Where this happens, we use established providers that make lawful transfer arrangements available for their services.
How long we keep information
We keep information only for as long as reasonably needed for the enquiry, the work we carry out, customer service, business records, dispute handling, security and legal or accounting requirements. Retention depends on the type of record and whether the enquiry becomes a job. Records are reviewed and should be deleted or anonymised when no longer required.
Security
We use HTTPS, private cloud storage, access controls and backend validation to reduce the risk of unauthorised access. No internet system can be guaranteed completely secure, so we continue to review and improve safeguards.
Cookies and analytics
The current website does not intentionally use non-essential advertising or analytics cookies. Essential technical storage may be used where necessary to provide or secure a service. If we introduce non-essential analytics, advertising or similar tracking, we will update this notice and provide an appropriate choice before such technologies are used where required.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law may give you rights to access your personal data, correct it, ask for deletion or restriction, object to certain uses, or receive a portable copy. To make a request, contact us using the details above. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office if you are unhappy with how your personal information is handled.
